Industrial Action 10th July 2014

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have been informed by a teaching union, the NUT, and the UNISON union representing our support staff, that their members will be taking industrial action in the form of a strike on Thursday 10 July 2014.

This action is not against the school itself but is part of national industrial action organised by these trade unions about changes to the pension schemes of their members and related matters.

Our main concern is the safety of our students and the decision to close the school would only be taken if in the opinion of the head it is not safe to remain open. Following undertaking a risk assessment I am writing to inform you that if the action continues then it will be necessary to close the school on Thursday.

The situation is fluid and therefore we will confirm in a text message what is happening next Wednesday 9 July 2014 the day before the intended industrial action. We are therefore asking parents to please make arrangements for the care of their children in the event of closure.

We must all hope that the issues over which the industrial action has arisen are resolved as soon as possible.

Yours sincerely,

Dr John S. Davies

Chair of Governors
